Sincere thank you to the lawyers and judges of Miami-Dade County for your support in the Board of Governors election.

The entire experience of the Board of Governors race has been tremendous - on many different levels.

First of all, the support and good wishes of lawyers all over the county, and their willingness to reach out to their friends on my behalf: I am extremely grateful.

Secondly, the opportunity to speak with colleagues in many different practice areas from government practice, to judges, to lawyers in immigration, criminal law, family practice, banking…areas that I would not necessarily see otherwise: I am very proud to be part of the same profession as these brilliant, talented, principled individuals.

It has also been exciting to meet so many young attorneys and to see that the next generation of new lawyers is certainly the equal of the great legal minds who came before us, and in many cases superior to those we looked up to for our leadership.

And, I guess, finally, to see how conscientious my fellow lawyers were in weighing the candidates and evaluating their choices for the Board of Governors. Those of us in the race were asked discerning questions wherever we went. Miami/Dade lawyers are keenly aware of the issues before the Board of Governors and take their selection of the leadership of the Bar very seriously. The Bar leadership is important to all of us as lawyers and it is gratifying to see that the members of the Bar recognize that, and see the selection of their leadership as one of their commitments to the profession.

I intend to continue to reach out to lawyers throughout Miami-Dade County for your input and help with the issues that come before the Board of Governors, particularly on budgetary, professionalism and governance issues, and to make certain that the strongly held beliefs and concerns of my colleagues are taken back to the Bar.

I am running for The Board of Governors and I ask for your support.

The Board of Governors should always ask first: "What would Florida Lawyers want?" The Board of Governors determines issues that affect our practice: dues, regulations, ethics, CLE requirements and restrictions on Florida lawyers. The Board should think first of YOU, the lawyers of The Florida Bar. That is why I want to be a part of the conversation.

I understand the problems that face attorneys. I began practice with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. I have worked for large firms in New York, Saudi Arabia, and Miami. I started my own firm as a sole practitioner; that firm has grown into Lott and Friedland, an intellectual property boutique.

I balance practice, family life, and community service. I am married to Michael Moore, also a lawyer, and we have two sons, Michael Jr. and Emmett.

I believe in service. I was 2009 Excellence Honoree for the Women of Tomorrow Mentor and Scholarship Program. I sit on the University of Florida Regional Council and the Law Center Association Board of Trustees. I am a founding member of the O'Connell Society of Florida Blue Key. I have served St. Stephen's Church on the vestry and school board; and have served my community on the Coral Gables Charter Review Committee, the Youth Center Board of Trustees, and the Historical Museum Board of Trustees. My firm has donated many hours of pro bono work to charitable and cultural organizations and to individuals.

I have experience on other boards which dealt with the kinds of financial, administrative and policy issues that come before the Board of Governors. I was appointed by the Secretary of Commerce to serve on the Public Advisory Committee of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, which reports annually to the President of the United States and to the Secretary. I served on the Board of Directors of the International Trademark Association, and chaired its Management Committee. I served on the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Business Law Section and as Chair of the Intellectual Property Law Committee, and I actively participate in law firm management.

I have been recognized for my work as an attorney. Best Lawyers® has named me Miami Area LAWYER OF THE YEAR for 2010 for Intellectual Property Law. I am Board Certified in intellectual property. I have been in The Best Lawyers in America since 1995, South Florida Legal Guide "Top Lawyers in South Florida" since 2001; Florida Trend's Florida Legal Elite since 2004; Florida Super Lawyers since 2005; Guide to the World's Leading Trademark Attorneys since 1998; and World Trademark Review "Trademark Experts' Experts" since 2007.

I will represent Florida lawyers. I will communicate with lawyers in the 11th Circuit, to make certain you know about issues before the Board of Governors, and invite your input. I have done this on other boards and it works.

"The client comes first." Our firm lives by this rule. If I am elected to the Board of Governors, YOU will come first. I humbly ask for your vote and your support.

Thank you.
"I have known Leslie since law school. She has always been one of the hardest workers and one of the most effective lawyers, I have know. I think she would be wonderful on the Board of Governors, and would be a great asset to us all. "

"Leslie Lott has been a friend and person to whom I turn for legal advice for well over twenty years. Her career demonstrates excellence in many areas: beyond intellectual property matters, she has been recognized as a "go to" person in Washington DC government reorganization matters as well as being active in important pro bono cases. Leslie has my unqualified support; we are all fortunate she has the time and expertise to devote to the Florida Bar."

Steve Naclerio

"I endorse Leslie Lott for the Board of Governors. I have known Leslie for over 25 years. Her endless energy and ethics will serve us all well. Leslie's sincerity will make you proud to have supported her."

Brett A. Panter

"You best learn the character of an attorney when you are opposing counsel. Having worked both with and against Leslie on a variety of cases, and having worked with her on Bar-related matters going back 20 years, I know that she carries herself with intelligence, dedication, great vigor, and above all, with the highest level of ethics. She would be a wonderful ambassador for our circuit if elected to the Board of Governors, and that is why I am proud to support her candidacy."

Steven I. Peretz

"I have known Leslie for more than 24 years. I use that number of years because that is about when my daughter was born. Leslie is a great person and a great lawyer. I have attended seminars that she has put on concerning intellectual property. She is well regarded in that field. More importantly, she is a great listener and an honest straightforward person. I hope you will support her election. If you don't know Leslie, I hope you will trust David and my judgment about her character and ability."

Ira Price

"It is unusual for me to recommend someone in an election but my friend and colleague Leslie is also an unusual candidate. We will definitely benefit from her diverse background and experience in government, non-profit and private work in the Board of Governors. Leslie has my unconditional support."

Jesus (Jay) Sanchelima

"Leslie Lott is running for The Florida Bar Board of Governors for the 11th Judicial Circuit ...Leslie is a great lawyer, but more importantly, an outstanding person. She has been a good friend of our firm and many of its lawyers for a long time. She is truly a class act. "

Harry R. Schafer

"While Leslie Lott's impressive resume speaks for itself, seeing her in action is even more remarkable. I can assure you that this position matters to Leslie and that she will be an incredible advocate and ally to us attorneys, who make up the Florida Bar. I hope you will all join me in support of her bid to serve on the Florida Bar Board of Governors. Please be on the lookout for your ballots in March. "

Scott A. Wagner

"I am proud to support Leslie Lott. Leslie exhibits core values such as honesty, professionalism, and the willingness to give back to our community. These values are important to me and I work hard to build them as I grow my practice as a young lawyer. If you share these values too, I encourage you to support Leslie Lott."

Ethan J. Wall

"I did not know Leslie personally at the time, but when I taught paralegal courses in the 1990s one of her assistants was a student in my research and writing class. This young woman was such a star in my class that I told her to skip the final exam; she explained that she had learned her skills by working for Leslie. Mentoring young people, and especially young women, is crucial to The Florida Bar's continued relevance, and it is plainly an important part of Leslie's mission."

Nancy C. Wear

"I have known Leslie Lott for many years and cannot think of a more qualified attorney to serve on the Board of Governors. Leslie conducts herself with the highest integrity in every aspect of her life. She cares about the legal system and is an excellent advocate for the legal community."
